Since 2014, PUR Projet and Nespresso have been working together on the agro-ecological transition of coffee producers in Ethiopia, Guatemala, Colombia and, more recently, in Uganda and Costa Rica.
PUR Projet's expertise in agroforestry makes for an ideal collaboration, promoting an agriculture that not only respects nature but that acts as a solution to climate change, biodiversity loss and the production of high quality products. Agroforestry is a practice which consists of planting native trees in and around farms for a dual objective: regenerate the ecosystems and offer a source of income diversification.
PUR Projet's approach is to engage with local communities as one of its success factor.
There is one key objective in mind: agroforestry should become, after 3 to 4 years, the preferred landscape management solution of both the local stakeholders and future generations.
This collaboration builds on the trajectory first begun in 2003 with the Farmer Relationship program developed by Nespresso, the Rainforest Alliance, and the Sustainable Agriculture Network. The AAA Sustainable Quality ™ program – a program that guides producers in sustainable coffee production.
Today, all actions carried out by PUR Projet with other partners are bearing fruit: more than 4.5 million trees have already been planted.
Why not help us plant some more?
PUR Projet works with companies to regenerate the ecosystems they depend on. We develop socio-environmental projects with communities, while strengthening the companies' value chains
using agroforestry, the restoration of landscape and the promotion of sustainable agriculture practices. To date, we have planted 16 million trees in more than 80 countries worldwide.
